On June 23rd, Game of Thrones stars Kit Harington and Rose Leslie tied the knot in a traditional Scottish ceremony. Jokingly called the second royal wedding of the year by fans, the shows King of the North and his bride received attention from all over the world. From the star-studded guest list to their post-ceremony lunch, here is what you need to know about the wedding that the Dothraki would consider a dull affair.

Their Story

The former co-stars met while creating one of the best onscreen love stories on Game of Thrones, and soon started dating behind the scenes even after Rose left the show. Kit proposed to Rose in September of 2017 and later admitted that he botched his engagement plans. In an interview, Kit said, “ I did have some plans to do it, I was going to string up some lights in some trees and do all the romantic stuff..." Later on, he told what actually happened: "we were in the country and we were under this beautiful night sky and had a log fire burning and red wine, and I blew my load early." When asked back in January how wedding planning was going, Rose admitted that she had not even started and that she was trying to fit it into her busy schedule.

With over 200 guests invited, many wondered who would grace the event with their presence, and Game of Thrones fans were not disappointed. Among the guests were Jon’s onscreen sisters Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) and Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), onscreen brother Richard Madden (Robb Stark),  Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), Joe Dempsie (Gendry), Conleth Hill (Lord Varys), John Bradley (Samwell Tarly), and Ben Crompton (Dolorous Edd). Other celebrities in attendance included Rose’s Downton Abbey co-star Sophie McShera, Marcus Mumford and bandmates from Mumford & Sons, and Rose’s Honeymoon co-star Harry Treadaway.

Kit and Rose chose to have their ceremony at Rayne Church in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Rose’s family has worshipped here for hundreds of years. The church was built in the 18th century, and evidence of Rose’s family can be seen along the walls of the church in forms of plaques.

Rose played the part of blushing bride in the most stunning way. Wearing an elegant Elie Saab bridal gown with allover lace, and a mermaid silhouette. Rose paired the gown with a small white bouquet, and veil held in place with a flower crown. Her fiercely proud father was by her side, wearing a traditional kilt cut from the Leslie’s tartan, black waistcoat, and black jacket.

Kit traded in his Night’s Watch cloak for a traditional morning suit and looked absolutely dashing. He decided to not wear a top hat, allowing his trademark long, unruly, Jon Snow hair to be in full view.

After the ceremony, Kit and Rose took a ride in a retro Defender Land Rover to Wardhill Castle, which was built in the 12th century and has been in Rose’s family for nine generations. The 700-acre estate was prepared for a post-wedding lunch, which was catered by a local company. The couple traded in their suit and dress for more casual wear during the lunch and showed off that newlywed glow.
