A Charming Daufuskie Island Wedding at Sea Oak Manor | Christa + Doug

Christa + Doug

You know the stories that you hear of happy couples who were friends for years before actually dating and realizing they were soulmates?! That is how the story of Christa, of Hilton Head, South Carolina, and her husband, Doug unfolded. When Doug was in fifth grade, he moved to Hilton Head, and met Christa, who would later become his wife; she was the first friend he made. Remaining friends since elementary school, the two finally began dating after both attended college at the University of South Carolina and later became engaged on the 50-yard line of the University’s Williams Brice Stadium.

The couple chose to get married at a Daufuskie Island’s venue, Sea Oak Manor, a beach front home. On Daufuskie Island things are different; it is a laid-back island with no bridge, leaving behind the hustle and bustle. “We would spend many weekends boating to the island’s bars and growing up a golfer, I played a lot of golf on their courses, “ says Doug. They knew it was the perfect location for their wedding. Sea Oak Manor is an older home with southern charm; it is spacious and the view is so amazing! Plus, with eight large bedrooms, each with a private bath, the house has a sleeping capacity of 32, making it perfect for their wedding!

Choosing an event planner and caterer was super easy, because the bride’s parents own Roy’s Place Cafe and Catering in Hilton Head Island. Since 1984, Roy Prescott, the bride’s father, has had an established reputation for exceptional food, creativity, and combined with outstanding service. “They literally did everything from planning and logistics, to catering,” says Doug. What a blessing!

We love the beautiful relaxed feel of this rainy day spring wedding. The couple so gracefully handled the unexpected rain that came on their wedding day – and moved the wedding indoors – thankfully the spacious beach home had space indoors. Christa and Doug were in fact thrilled with the way the day turned out! The great room became their ceremony space, the foyer – their aisle, they moved the pool table out of the bar area, and the 16-ft charcuterie table went right into the foyer.  “Although it wasn’t our original dream, it was spectacular nonetheless!” says Becky, who was in charge of planning/catering along with her husband, Roy. This wedding was full of smiles, laughter, close friends and family – and was so much fun! The couple even included their beloved dog, Penny, who is a 7 year old rescue golden doodle, in the wedding ceremony.
