Ultimate DIY Wedding: Live on Good Morning America! | Katlin & Keith

Have you ever entered a contest or drawing, forgot about it because you didn’t think you would win, then actually won it? Well, that’s exactly what happened to Katlin Allsbrook and Keith Peck. After swiping right on the dating app Bumble in 2016, and a first date that lasted 8 hours and shut down a local restaurant, Keith and Katlin knew that “It wasn’t a question of if. It was more of a matter of when.” Wanting to see the fruits of their labor and avoid the cookie cutter items, the couple started to plan and prepare for a September wedding, not knowing that the future was holding quite a different story.

In a phone interview, the couple told their story and explained how they ended up getting married on live television. A few months ago, Katlin entered Michael’s Ultimate DIY Wedding contest by sending in a simple paragraph about what DIY meant to her and her fiance. Katlin forgot about it and didn’t even tell Keith. Whoever believes they’re actually going to win a contest that’s nationwide? Towards the end of April, Katlin received a phone call from New York, which happened to be a producer from Good Morning America. The producer wanted to let them know they were a finalist in the contest, and after a few more questions for the couple, asked how they would feel about getting married on live television in front of millions of viewers on May 31st. After an enthusiastic yes, the couple spent the next month preparing for what would truly be a once in a lifetime event.

The week of the special event, Katlin and Keith flew to New York to finalize everything. Katlin’s dress was fitted, the couple met the producers, and the two-day Ultimate DIY Wedding Special on GMA began! On day one, the couple started working with celebrity wedding planner, David Tutera and went to Michael’s to get a sneak peak of his new wedding collection. After picking out the rustic and traditional items they felt fit them most, and their colors of white and peach, the couple was taken to the craft room at Michael’s and shown all the ends and outs of making centerpieces and other floral decorations. They were also surprised with a line of Helzberg Diamond wedding rings that they could choose from to have. While on the air, Katlin and Keith were also able to help show off other DIY wedding projects that any couple could do, from making different types of bouquets to ceremony and reception decorations.

On day two of the special, it was time for the big moment. With parents standing close by, Katlin and Keith immortalized their love forever in front of millions of viewers around the world. It was here that everyone could see just how much love these two have for one another. Even with all eyes on them, they only saw each other. After the ceremony, the now husband and wife shared their first dance. To help make the dance even more special, singer-songwriter MAX sang his hit song “Lights Down Low,” which he wrote for his own wife when he proposed to her. Stealing a kiss every now and then, adding a little twirl, and whispering and giggling, you would have thought Katlin and Keith were the only ones in the room. The special ended with all guests on the show gather around the couple and dancing along.

The couple is now back home in Ohio, and they are still planning on having a wedding celebration in September. Since only a few people were able to be on Good Morning America with them, they want to make sure all of their family members are able to celebrate their special moment with them.
