Kristina Solloway has been enjoying the craft of cake artistry since 2006, starting with her son’s first birthday cake. Since then she has worked to develop her talent making edible monuments of "love" for all different occasions. Then, in 2009, the Raleigh Rescue Mission in downtown Raleigh asked Kristina to make a wedding cake for a couple who had met during treatment, and having successfully completed the program, fell in love and wanted to get married at the very place they met. RRM needed all the help they could get to help this couple start a new life together. Kristina jumped on the opportunity having never made a wedding cake before. Not knowing how to start, she called on a baker friend from New York, who gave her all the instruction she needed. The RRM wedding cake was a success and even made its debut in The News and Observer as this couple's story was being covered. This event was the turning point that gave Kristina the confidence to move forward professionally with her love for cake decorating. As Kristina pursued her talent with diligence, people commented that she treated each cake as though she poured all her love out with each delicious sculpture. One person asked Kristina if she could produce one of her love cakes for her child’s birthday party, and so the concept of "Love Cake" was born.
